Saratoga Springs Community Orchestra
The Saratoga Springs Community Orchestra is a place where we can come together with other community members, to build friendships and enjoy playing a wide variety music. We are a non-audition group which means we are reaching out to those that are or who may have been part of music ensembles (such as junior high, high school or college) and are interested performing again in an orchestra.
The Orchestra is currently practicing for their holiday concert that will be on Monday, December 17th at 7:00 pm at Vista Heights Middle School.
Rehearsals will be on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays at 7 p.m. - Rehearsals start up again August 2, 2018. Rehearsals are held in the City Council Chambers at the city offices building.

- You get to play a variety of great music
- There are only 2 or 3 rehearsals a month
- There is no cost to join
- You can make new friends by joining with others in performing music in a fun environment.
This is your chance to be part of our community orchestra and provide a festive Christmas concert for your family, friends, and community. Please don’t miss out on being a part of the Orchestra this year. AND if you know of other talented family and friends that would love to perform in an orchestra with you, please invite them to join! We currently have about 50 members. This year we would love to double, if not triple, the number of string players!
What music will we work on?
Saratoga Springs Arts Council and other sponsors have again generously provided us with rehearsal space and with new music which includes:
- Christmas at the Movies
- Christmas Rocks at the Pops
- A Mad Russian Christmas
- March of the Toys
- Carol of the Bells (piano solo with orchestra)
- Sleigh Ride
- Christmas Sing-A-Long -- Joy to the World, O Come, All Ye Faithful, Hark! The Herald Angels, Silent Night
- Christmas in the Kitchen -- Up on the Housetop, Jingle Bells -- with special guests on pots, pans and glasses
ADDITIONALLY, we are going to start working on more challenging music for future concerts. We would love to take your suggestions so we can work on advanced numbers that you would like to perform with the group.
How much time is needed and what is the schedule?
We know you are busy so we try to keep the amount time you spend to a minimum. Beyond your own practice time, we only meet on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursdays of each month. All rehearsals are at the City Offices, 1307 N Commerce Dr, 2nd Floor from 7 to 9 pm. We are currently planning on the following rehearsal dates (all on Thursday evenings):
- August 2, 30 (note we are NOT Meeting on Thursday August 16th)
- September 6, 20
- October 4, 18
- November 1, 15, 29
- December 6, and possibly December 13th (location TBD)
*** CONCERT – is tentatively scheduled for Monday December 17th ****
We ask that you attend at least 50% of all rehearsals with one of the final two to participate in the concert. However, we understand how busy many of you are and we are happy to work with you.
What level is the music?
Because we are a non-auditioned group, and due to limited rehearsal time, our music is about a Medium or level 3 or 4 (high school) level. However, this year we are going to start working on more advanced music throughout the year.
When and where is the concert?
The Christmas concert will be on a Monday evening, tentatively set for December 17th, as part of a city celebration and awards program.
What is the cost to join?
There is NO COST to be a part of the orchestra. The City of Saratoga Springs and a few other sponsors have graciously provided funding for the music, concert venue, and rehearsal space again this year.
How Do I Sign up?
Please email Dan Fritch with the part you would like to play to be added to the orchestra roster.
What do I need to bring?
All we ask is that you come with your instrument, your music stand, and be ready to perform with others that love to learn fun music and perform together!
