  • The address shall be posted on the exterior of the home and clearly visible from the street.
  • All egress paths shall be clear and unobstructed.
  • All electrical outlets where children may occupy must have child proof covers.
  • All electrical outlets within 6 feet of a water source must have ground fault interruption.
  • All electrical wiring shall be covered and in good working order.
  • All natural gas appliances must be vented to the outside, and have proper ventilation.
  • Each floor shall have two separate means of egress. One of the exits in a basement or second floor must discharge directly to the outside. Egress through a garage is not permitted.
  • The electrical panel box shall be labeled and unobstructed for immediate access and discontinuation of electrical power.
  • Fire drills shall be conducted monthly and documented. A fire evacuation plan shall be posted.
  • A flashlight must be in working condition and readily available.
  • Heating equipment such as fireplaces, floor furnaces and other open burning appliances shall be provided with partitions, screens, or other means to protect children from hot surfaces or open flames.
  • A minimum 2A:10BC fire extinguisher shall be located on each level of the home which is available to children.
  • No children shall be located above or below the first story unless there is an approved exit door leading directly to the outside such as walkout basements or stairs.
  • No day care can be located above the second story.
  • No door such as a closet or bathroom door shall have a locking device which will prevent the provider from making immediate entry. A key or other means of entry shall be kept in the immediate area of the door.
  • No excessive vegetation or trash in or around the structure.
  • Providers shall contact the fire department annually for an inspection.
  • Smoke detectors shall be located on each level and in each bedroom occupied by children. The smoke detectors may be battery operated if the provider documents monthly testing, maintenance, and battery replacement.
