Winter Driving Tips From Utah County I-15 Project

December 19th, 2011

The winter season may be upon us, but construction activities on Utah County’s I-15 Corridor Expansion (I-15 CORE) are still in full swing.  Whether you’re commuting a short distance to work or heading out of town for the holidays, please use extra caution while driving through the work zone this winter.

Keep yourself and others safe this season by remembering these winter driving tips:

  • Plan ahead:  Give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination safely.  Check traffic conditions before heading out, by visiting CommuterLink and Know Where Know Why on UDOT’s home page, www.udot.utah.gov
  • Be prepared:  Make sure your vehicle is ready for winter driving.  Avoid trouble by inspecting your tires, wiper blades, fluids, lights, belts and hoses.
  • See and Be Seen:  Take the time to clear ice and snow from your vehicle’s windows, lights, and signals.
  • Slow down and use caution:  When accelerating, merging, and traveling in winter conditions, slow down to avoid sliding.  The faster you go, the longer it will take you to stop, so leave plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you.  Use extra caution when driving on off-ramps, bridges, and roadways near water; these areas are the most vulnerable to black ice.
  • Know your brakes:  Never slam on the brakes; doing so can cause your vehicle to slide.  If you have anti-lock brakes, press the pedal down firmly and hold it.  Otherwise, gently pump the pedal.  Remember to brake early and slowly, and give yourself plenty of room to stop.
  • Give snowplows room to work:  When following behind a snowplow, leave at least 300 feet of space between your vehicle and the plow; be patient and don’t try to pass the plow.  For your safety, never drive through the cloud of snow that a plow throws.

Notice Regarding Recent Unsolicited Phone Calls

December 15th, 2011

The City of Saratoga Springs has recently received many complaints regarding phone calls made from an automated dialer service.  These phone calls are asserting various opinions on City policy.  The City of Saratoga Springs and its elected officials are not affiliated with the source of these calls.

It also appears that residents with unlisted phone numbers and cell phones have been contacted.  This has led some residents to speculate that the City has provided phone numbers to this service.  The City is committed to protecting your personal privacy and does not sell or in any other way provide your personal information to anyone.

SR 73; East Commerce Drive to the Jordan River Project

December 15th, 2011

This project will address drainage and flooding concerns on SR-73 just west of the Jordan River near the Crossroads area of Saratoga Springs.

  • Between 12/19 – 12/22 pipe work will be underway on the south side of SR-73 near the Jordan River. Traffic will be reduced to one direction at a time on both SR-73 and on 400 E and will be under the direction of flaggers.  This is expected to cause traffic delays during daytime hours.
    • At night, all lanes will be reopened and work areas will be covered with metal plates.  Please drive carefully through the project area.
    • In observance of the Christmas holiday, work will be suspended and all lanes of traffic reopened between 12/23 – 12/26.
    • Work on the project will resume after Christmas and will continue into the month of January.

Mountain View Corridor

November 23rd, 2011

Active Construction Areas

5400 South
Crews have closed Upper Ridge Road temporarily at approximately 5100 South.  This closure is in place so crews can haul dirt across the roadway to build up the future Mountain View Corridor.  Upper Ridge Road is expected to be closed until spring of 2012*.  Please adjust your travel accordingly.

Crews have begun a hauling operation across 5400 South at approximately 6400 West where it intersects with the Mountain View Corridor.  Flaggers are in place to guide large haul trucks across the roadway.  Please use caution when driving through this area.

7800 South
Beginning in early December crews will begin a hauling operation across 7800 South at approximately 6000 West where it intersects with the Mountain View Corridor.  Flaggers will be in place to guide large haul trucks across the  roadway.  Please follow the direction of the flaggers and use caution as you drive through this area.

8200 South
Beginning in early December crews will begin a hauling operation across 8200 South at approximately 5800 West where it intersects with the Mountain View Corridor.  Flaggers will be in place to guide large haul trucks across the roadway.  Shoulder restrictions will remain in place throughout this operation for the construction of the bridges over 8200 South.  Please use caution when driving through this area  and obey posted speed limits.

New Bingham Hwy.
Crews have realigned New Bingham Highway at approximately 5800 West where it intersects with the Mountain View Corridor.  A new intersection will be under construction at 5600 west and New Bingham Highway.  This intersection will allow better traffic flow to access 9000 South and the west portion of New Bingham Highway.  Click here to view driving directions and a map of the new alignment.

9000 South
A new portion of 9000 South has been opened to traffic.  New Bingham Highway has been realigned to connect to this new portion of 9000 South at approximately 6100 West.  This new section of 9000 South can be used to access New Bingham Highway via 5600 West.  Click here to view driving directions and a map of the new roadway.

Southbound traffic on 5600 West has now been shifted east towards the median.  This shift will allow crews to construct new roadway on the west side and connect the newly constructed section of 5600 West to the existing roadway.  Striping and signs will be in place to help guide vehicles through this area.  Please use caution as you drive through the construction zone.

Dannon Way
Crews have begun the construction of the bridges over Dannon Way.  Shoulder restrictions will be in place throughout the bridge construction.  Please use caution and follow the direction of the construction signs as you drive through this area.

Wells Park Rd.

11800 South
11800 South is now closed at approximately 5200 West between Daybreak Parkway and Vadania Drive.  This is a permanent closure of the existing alignment of 11800 South from Daybreak Parkway to Vadania Drive.  Construction crews will realign 11800 South to its new location where it will connect to Mountain View Corridor.  11800 South to the east and to the west of Mountain View Corridor remains  open.  Alternate  Routes are available through 4000 West and Grandville Avenue for traffic to access Daybreak Parkway.  This includes pedestrian traffic. During construction, concrete barrier will be placed on each side of the closure to prevent vehicle and pedestrian access into the construction zone.

12600 South
Beginning in early December, traffic lanes will be shifted on 12600 South at approximately 4700 West where Mountain View Corridor intersects with 12600 South.  This change will shift traffic to the outside of the roadway (two lanes on the north side and two lanes on the south side).  This traffic shift will allow crews to install the final raised concrete median in the middle of the road.  Sidewalks will be completed on the south side of the roadway for pedestrian access.  Please stay on the designated sidewalks to walk or ride your bike through the construction zone.

13400 South
Traffic is now shifted from the south side of 13400 South to the north side of the roadway at approximately 4700 West where Mountain View Corridor intersects with 13400  South.  This has changed the configuration from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction.  Crews are reconstructing the south side of 13400 South to tie-in to the Mountain View Corridor.  Please use caution when driving through this area and obey posted speed limits.

Dragonfly Lane
To better facilitate the traffic configuration on 13400 South, access to Dragonfly Lane from 13400 South has been closed.  This closure will be in place to provide safer access for the traveling public and will remain in effect until the reconstruction of 13400 South is complete in the fall.  Access to the Monarch Meadows apartments is available at Cloudy Wing Way from Monarch Meadows Parkway, also known as 5000 West.  Detour signs have been installed to guide residents through the area.

Redwood Road
Shoulder restrictions are in place on Redwood Road near 16000 South.  These restrictions will allow construction crews to install utilities under Redwood Road. Lane shifts are now in place in the   southbound lanes in this area.  New striping is in place to direct you through the construction area.  All traffic lanes will remain open.  Please use caution as you drive through this area and obey posted speed limits.

Saratoga Pipeline Construction Update

November 22nd, 2011

1200 North at 800 West Now Open

After two months of construction 800 West opened to two-way traffic on Tuesday, November 22, after paving was completed from approximately 1000 North to 1200 North.  Central Utah Water Conservancy District and Whitaker Construction would like to express their appreciation for your patience and understanding during pipeline construction along 800 West.

Pipeline construction adjacent to 800 West has now moved south of 400 North heading south to Pony Express Parkway.  Pipe is being installed east of the road between the ULDC canal and the roadway.  Two-way traffic is being maintained but please watch for lane shifts and construction equipment along the shoulder of the road and observe construction signage and traffic control work.

Other crews are working at Redwood Road and beyond as pipeline construction follows the Utah Lake Distribution Canal alignment northward.  Construction of a pipe tunnel under Redwood Road has begun.  Watch for construction vehicles, activities and barricades along the shoulders of Redwood Road, just south of Hillcrest Dr.  Also watch for construction vehicles exiting off and entering Redwood Road north of Harvest Hills Blvd.

Construction clean-up following pipe installation continues along 800 West and behind the homes that border the pipeline right-of-way along the Utah Lake Distribution Canal.

Please use caution when approaching construction vehicles outside of the work zone and when attempting to pass.   No visitors or residents are allowed in the work zone and when driving please observe any construction signs.

Safety and consideration for those living, traveling or working near construction is a top priority as is protecting workers, pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.  Pipe trenches are inherently dangerous and have been known to collapse without warning.  We encourage you to talk with your children about the danger of playing around or approaching the work zone and especially the trenches, even after work-hours. Please stay a minimum of 15 feet away from the trenches at all times.

We realize this is a tremendous inconvenience but we appreciate your patience and understanding.

General work hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Work hours may be extended if circumstances warrant.  Additional information is available on our Help and Information line at 801-360-6528 or online at www.saratogapipeline.com. You can sign-up for email updates at info@saratogapipeline.com. To become friends on Facebook please go to the Homepage at www.saratogapipeline.com and click on the Facebook application.
