Monday, January 30th, 2012

The SSPD is sponsoring a Rape Aggression Defense training each Saturday morning in March, 9:00-12:00 a.m., at a cost of $20 to the residents of Saratoga Springs. The charge provides the participants with a manual. A key chain defense class may be available on  March 31st (please contact the trainer, may be an extra cost for a Kubotan).

The Rape Aggression Defense System (R.A.D.) is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. seeks to develop and enhance the options of self defense so they may become viable considerations to the woman who is attacked. Each student receives a book/reference manual that outlines the entire Physical Defense program for reference and continuous personal growth, and is the key to a free lifetime return and practice policy for R.A.D. graduates. Women 16 years and older are invited to attend and mothers are encouraged to join their teenage daughters in participating in the class (For more information visit www.rad-systems.com). Saratoga Pipeline Construction Update

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Construction on the CWP – North Shore Aqueduct West & North Segments remains on schedule to be completed by the end of March 2012.
Over the final two months construction will continue on the Pony Express Turnout structure adjacent to 800 West near Pony Express Parkway as well as on the North Turnout Structure located east of Redwood Road near 1900 North.
Other crews are finishing up the installation of the pipeline adjacent to and under Redwood Road while pipeline construction adjacent to the Utah lake Distribution Canal is completed with only restoration of the alignment corridor remaining.
Please continue watching for construction vehicles, activities and barricades along the shoulders of Redwood Road, just south of Hillcrest Dr.  Also watch for construction vehicles exiting off and entering Redwood Road north of Harvest Hills Blvd.
Safety and consideration for those living, traveling or working near construction remains a top priority as is protecting workers, pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers.  Pipe trenches are inherently dangerous and have been known to collapse without warning.  We encourage you to talk with your children about the danger of playing around or approaching the work zone and especially the trenches, even after work-hours. Please stay a minimum of 15 feet away from the trenches at all times.
General work hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Work hours could be extended if circumstances warrant.

Natural Gas Service South of SR 73 Restored After Temporary Interruption

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Questar Gas reports that natural gas service to several hundred homes in Saratoga Springs located south of SR 73 was temporarily interrupted this morning due to a meter malfunction at a regulator station.

The problem was corrected by around 10:30 a.m.

Throughout the day, Questar Gas service technicians canvassed 800 to 900 homes in the affected area to make sure service was restored and appliances were operating properly.

If technicians found no one home, they left a notice indicating service was turned off at the customer’s meter as a safety precaution. This evening between 5 pm. and 10 p.m., Questar Gas technicians will return to homes where meters were shut off to turn the meter back on and re-light all appliances. Questar Gas is assigning additional personnel this evening to restore as quickly as possible service to homes where meters were turned off.

Customers are advised not to attempt to turn on their meters and instead wait for a Questar Gas representative to show up.

Customers can report any problems by calling (800) 323-5517.
