2100 North Project Update

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010
The following are planned activities for the coming week. Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.
Installation of the mast arms for the traffic signals at 2300 W. will occur this week. (see below for details) Current Construction Activities

  • Concrete sidewalk installation on the north side of the westbound frontage road will continue west toward Redwood Road.
  • Concrete curb and gutter on the eastbound and westbound frontage roads will be placed this week to the west of 10400 W.
  • Work on the signal at 2300 W. will continue this week. Pole and mast arm installation was delayed again last week due to material availability. This week, crews will install the mast arms for the traffic signals at 2300 W. Traffic may be limited to one direction at a time during this work.
  • Landscaping and irrigation work continues at the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection.

Ongoing Project Impacts

  • Excavation work is currently underway between the two frontage roads on the east side of 2100 N./2300 W. This work requires many loads of construction material to be brought in and out of the work zone. The excavation work will create dust in the general vicinity; the contractor will be sending water trucks through regularly to manage this.
  • In the interest of safety, the small section of Jordan River Trail that falls within the project area has been closed. Access along the trail to the north and south will remain open, but there will be no connecting access through the project during construction. Please refrain from entering this restricted area. Heavy construction is underway and it is not safe to pass through.
  • Excavation work continues for the portion of the westbound frontage road near the railroad bridge. In order to construct the new railroad bridge and subsequently build the roadway beneath the bridge, UTA and UDOT have fully closed 2100 North between 2300 West and Pointe Meadows Drive. This closure will remain in place through Fall of 2011. Motorists should plan to use 1500 North as an alternate route.

Mountain View Corridor Update

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Construction crews have begun utility and roadway work on Mountain View Corridor.  See below for specific construction activities on cross streets.  New activities are highlighted in bold text.

12600 South: Beginning September, 27, 2010*, 12600 South will be restricted to one lane in each direction between Legacy Ranch Boulevard and Herriman City Main Street.  These restrictions will be in place for approximately six months while crews reconstruct the roadway to tie-in to Mountain View Corridor.

13400 South: Lane restrictions and flagging operations will be in place on 13400 South between Bangerter Highway and Monarch Meadows Parkway.  These restrictions will be in place for approximately two weeks* between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Construction on 13400 South and 12600 South will be phased to ensure travel lane restrictions on each street will not happen simultaneously. Please use caution in the area and obey posted speed limits.

Western Hills Drive: Beginning September 13, 2010*, Western Hills Drive where it intersects with Mountain View Corridor will be closed permanently. During construction, barrier will be placed on the east and west ends of the closure to prevent vehicle access.  Pedestrian access will also be restricted during construction.  Once construction is complete, pedestrian access to the trail and sidewalk that will run along Mountain View Corridor will be provided.

*Dates subject to change due to weather or equipment related issues.

Crews will also be working along the corridor between 16000 South and 11800 South installing utilities, performing earthwork operations, and working on structures.

Safety is our top priority –
Safety of the traveling public, our construction crews, and those living, playing, and working near the corridor is of utmost importance.  Please use caution when traveling through work zones and please stay out of the construction zone.  Children in particular are intrigued with large construction equipment and activity so please speak with your children about staying out of the construction zone and away from heavy equipment.

2100 North Update

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
The following are planned activities for the coming week. Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.
Steel posts and mast arms for the traffic signals at 2300 W. will be installed this week. (see below for details)

Current Construction Activities

  • Work to install the steel posts and mast arms for the traffic signals at 2300 W. was delayed last week due to materials availability. Work to install these will resume this week. Once installed, the signals will not be active until Fall 2011 when the road is opened to east/west traffic.
  • Landscaping and irrigation work will continue at the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection this week. Concrete for the curb, gutter and sidewalk on the eastbound and westbound frontage roads will be placed this week between 2300 W. and 10400 W.

SR-68 Update

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Work for the coming week:

Pedestrian Trail

  • The trail on Redwood Road adjacent to the Saratoga Springs development is closed from the north end of the development to Lakeview Terrace.  The existing trail has been removed and a new trail will be built on the remaining HOA property a little to the east.
    • The decorative wall is scheduled to be completed by the end of next week.  Crews are beginning to work on final grading of the dirt on both sides of the wall and restoration of the trail and landscaping.

Paving Operation from Grandview to Pelican Point

  • Due to cold nighttime temperatures, the final pavement layer (microsurfacing) has not been finished.  Crews are scheduled to finish the microsurfacing of the shoulders and entrances to developments this week.
    • If nightly temperatures are warmer next week the crews will place the microsurfacing at night.  If night temperatures don’t rise then the work will have to be done in the day.
    • On Tuesday, September 7th the crews are scheduled to begin night work on the through lanes.
    • The hours of operation will be from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am.
    • Work will begin at Pelican Point and move north.

Roadway Reconstruction from Grandview to 400 South

  • From 400 South to a little north of Grandview Blvd. crews will continue working on the west side of the road.
    • Traffic has been fully switched to the east side of the road and Parkway Blvd. is open.
    • Crews have removed the west side of the road and are currently adding material to build up the road grade.
    • Microsurfacing and final striping will be placed when both sides of the road are finished.
  • A concrete barrier has been placed in the reconstruction area for driver safety during construction.

*Please be cautious when pulling out onto SR-68.  Traffic is moving much faster than it looks.

Landscaping

  • Work is continuing on restoring the berm.
  • The decorative wall is scheduled to be finished by the end of next week.
  • Work is beginning on restoring the grade and the sprinkler system.

Other items to be aware of:

  • Utility work is being done on the west side of the road relocating a gas line.
  • The Saratoga Springs HOA will be closing their access roads onto Redwood Road at various times during construction.  This is something the HOA has opted to do on their own since they own the roads in the development.
  • A decorative wall will be placed next to the trail and its height will vary depending on the location.  The wall will begin at the north end of the development and will end approximately 500 feet north of Grandview Blvd.  The wall is part of the mitigation agreed to by the adjacent residents and HOA in lieu of a 6-foot noise wall being placed directly on the Right of Way line.  Additional landscaping will be added by the HOA behind the wall at a later date.

*Schedule is subject to change.  Please be alert and follow the direction of signs and the construction workers
