SR-68 Street Striping

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Just a quick update:

We have had a number of hotline calls about the striping on the road in the last week.  The current striping is just temporary.  After the microsurface layer is added to the road, a survey crew will come out and mark the road for the permanent striping.  The width of the lanes where there will be left turn lanes added is eleven feet.  Cars should have no problem getting around someone making a left turn.

If you have any questions please ask!

Thanks,

SR-68 Team

Pioneer Crossing Project Update

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Please note: Schedule changes and additions to this week’s update are underlined.

Stop signs and signals are located at the Pioneer Crossing intersections. Please treat these intersections as a four-way stop and watch for construction trucks crossing the road.

The Pioneer Crossing Project will open on Aug. 23, 2010, at 8 a.m. That will include the six-mile roadway from Redwood Road in Saratoga Springs to the intersection of Main Street and U.S. 89 in American Fork, as well as the new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) with I-15 at American Fork Main Street.

Aug. 13- 23: Traffic movements east and west across the interchange will be restricted while crews complete the necessary final tie-ins for the new DDI and make the road traffic ready. All east and west movements across the interchange will be restricted solely to southbound I-15 traffic exiting to go eastbound onto American Fork Main Street. Please visit http://www.udot.utah.gov/pioneer/construction_info.php for a map of the allowed traffic movements.

I-15 Interchange at American Fork Main Street:
Main Street Area (East of I-15) – With traffic moved to the south side of Main Street, please remember that lanes are narrowed and all left turns into the business areas between State Street and Kawakami Drive are to be made only at signalized intersections.

Aug. 13-16: Expect flagging, lane restrictions and lane shifts on U.S. 89 and east and west Main Street as crews stripe the roadway.

The right-hand turn lane on southbound U.S. 89 will be closed through Aug.13. Right-hand turns will be permitted from the through/left turn lane.

The right-in turns into Main Street Plaza and the Alpine Shopping Center from westbound Main Street will remain closed until Main Street traffic is switched to both sides of the road at 8 p.m. on Aug. 13.

Aug 14: UTA will be moving its bus services from the Park and Ride lot on 900 West to the Frontrunner station 200 South. The Park and Ride lot will remain open for carpool vehicle parking until Aug. 23.

900 West is closed while crews reconstruct the roadway and complete utility work. All motorists and buses will need to use 1020 West to access businesses and the Park and Ride.

Work continues on the two bridges of the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). Crews are working to complete traffic tie-ins and landscaping at the interchange.

Work continues on interchange ramps. Please use caution when entering and exiting the freeway.

I-15 will be restricted to two lanes in each direction nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for bridge construction. Weekend lane closures are possible. Lane restrictions will continue through Aug. 23. Motorists should anticipate moderate travel delays.

Mill Pond Road Area (Lehi to I-15 in American Fork):

Aug. 23: Mill Pond Road will close to through traffic between 700 South and approximately 1000 East. Businesses will be accessible. The closure will be in effect through mid-October.

Mill Pond Road south of the intersection with 8020 North in Lehi (south of the UPRR tracks) will remain closed until August 23. Residents traveling north and south in this area can use 200 South to 300 West in American Fork or 300 East to 700 South in Lehi as alternatives.

300 East (Lehi) to Redwood Road(Lehi/ Saratoga Springs):
Crews are finishing final items of work along Pioneer Crossing in preparation to open the road on Aug. 23. Additional work will occur off of the roadway through mid- October while crews complete the last remaining items.

General Project Information
General work hours are generally between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, although night work is required for paving operations. Please use caution and slow down as you travel through the construction area as crews, large trucks and other heavy equipment are working nearby. SR-68 Update

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

Work for the coming week:

Storm Drain

  • Crews will continue working on the installation of the storm drain.  Crews are currently just south of Grandview Blvd.

Pedestrian Trail

  • The trail on Redwood Road adjacent to the Saratoga Springs development is closed from the north end of the development to Lakeview Terrace.  The existing trail has been removed and a new trail will be built on the remaining HOA property a little to the east.
    • Crews have started work on the trail.

Paving Operation from Grandview to Pelican Point

  • The milling and paving on the road between Grandview and Pelican Point is finished, except for a small portion that will have to be paved once the storm drain is fully installed.
  • Friday, August 13 – crews will begin adding a two-foot shoulder to the road.  Work will begin at Pelican Point and head north.  This work will take approximately 4 days.  There will be one-way traffic only with flaggers.
  • A microsurface layer, for skid resistance, will be installed the week of August 30th

Roadway Reconstruction from Grandview to 400 South

  • From 400 South to a little north of Grandview Blvd. crews will continue working on the east side of the road.
    • Late next week or the beginning of the following week, crews will be paving this side of the road.  Crews are currently building the roadway up to the design grade by adding granular borrow and this is 2/3 complete.
  • A concrete barrier has been placed in the reconstruction area for driver safety during construction.
  • Parkway Blvd. remains closed while crews work on the road.  The road is scheduled to be reopened the week of August 30th.  HOA traffic may use the north entrance and 400 South to access SR-68.  Parkway Blvd. is scheduled to reopen the week of August 30th.
  • Crews have been working on the installation of the curb and gutter at Parkway Blvd.

Landscaping

  • Work is starting on restoring the berm and placement of the decorative wall.

*Crews will be working this Saturday.

Other items to be aware of:

  • After the new road is fully in place between 400 South and Grandview, a microsurface layer will be placed over the pavement for protection and safety.  This is scheduled to take place the week of August 30th.  The utilities will also be raised back to the surface of the road.
  • In approximately 3 weeks, traffic will be switched to the newly constructed east side of SR-68 between 400 South and Grandview.  Work will then begin on raising the west side.
  • Utility work is being done on the west side of the road relocating a gas line.
  • The Saratoga Springs HOA will be closing their access roads onto Redwood Road at various times during construction.  This is something the HOA has opted to do on their own since they own the roads in the development.
  • A wall will be placed next to the trail and its height will vary depending on the location.  The wall will begin at the north end of the development and will end approximately 500 feet north of Grandview Blvd.  The wall is part of the mitigation agreed to by the adjacent residents and HOA in lieu of a 6-foot noise wall being placed directly on the Right of Way line.  Additional landscaping will be added by the HOA behind the wall at a later date.
  • The flooding recently experienced is a result of major storms.  Once the roadway is raised and the drainage system is fully in place, no flooding of SR-68 is expected.

*Schedule is subject to change.  Please be alert and follow the direction of signs and the construction workers.

2100 North Project Update

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010
The following are planned activities for the coming week. Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.
As a reminder, you can now follow Mountain View Corridor on Facebook and Twitter! Project information and up-to-the-minute construction alerts will be posted on the project’s social media pages. Also, check out the new Mountain View Overview video posted on YouTube page.

In preparation for school starting back up at the end of August, crews will be working to pave the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection and get concrete sidewalks installed this week.  (see details below)

Current Construction Activities

  • Work on the landscaping walls for the pedestrian crossing at the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection will begin tomorrow and continue throughout the week.
  • Work to install the new sidewalk, curb and gutter at this intersection is underway and will continue into next week.
  • Asphalt paving activities are scheduled on the west leg of the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection late this week into next week.

Ongoing Project Impacts

  • Excavation work is currently underway between the two frontage roads on the east side of 2100 N./2300 W. This work requires many loads of construction material to be brought in and out of the work zone. There will be some dust stirred up during this work, the contractor will be sending water trucks through regularly to manage this.
  • Over the next two weeks, there will be concentrated construction operations at the intersection of 2100 N./2300 W.  Residents can expect brief, intermittent one-way flagging operations at the intersection and increased truck traffic.
  • Crews continue preparing the west side of the project between the Jordan River and Redwood Road for the future roadway.  This work includes installing walls, placing fill material and work on bridge and underpass structures.
  • In the interest of safety, the small section of Jordan River Trail that falls within the project area has been closed. Access along the trail to the north and south will remain open, but there will be no connecting access through the project during construction.
  • In order to construct the new railroad bridge and subsequently build the roadway beneath the bridge, UTA and UDOT have fully closed 2100 North between 2300 West and Pointe Meadows Drive. This closure will remain in place through Fall of 2011. Motorists should plan to use 1500 North as an alternate route.

Mountain View Corridor: Construction Activity Update

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Getting there is getting better – Help is on the way to ease traffic on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley.  Initial construction of the Mountain View Corridor will build two outside travel lanes in both directions from 5400 South to Redwood Road at approximately 16000 South.  Future construction will build out the remainder of the corridor by adding interchanges and inside lanes to achieve a fully functioning freeway.

Construction is moving forward – Construction crews will begin utility and roadway work on Mountain View Corridor in early August 2010.  Initial construction will be south of 12600 South.  See below for specific construction activities.

12600 South: Construction will begin on 12600 South August 16, 2010*.  Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction between Legacy Ranch Boulevard and Herriman City Main Street.  These restrictions will be in place on August 16th and 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day.
13400 South: Construction will begin on 13400 South on August 16, 2010*.  Lane restrictions and flagging operations will be in place between Bangerter Highway and Monarch Meadows Parkway.  These restrictions will be in place for approximately three weeks.

Construction on 13400 South and 12600 South will be phased to ensure travel lane restrictions on each street will not happen simultaneously. Please use caution in the area and obey posted speed limits. *Dates subject to change due to weather or equipment related issues.

Safety is our top priority – Safety of the traveling public, our construction crews, and those living, playing, and working near the corridor is of utmost importance.  Please use caution when traveling through work zones and please stay out of the construction zone.  Children in particular are intrigued with large construction equipment and activity so please speak with your children about staying out of the construction zone and away from heavy equipment.

SR-68 Project Update

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Weekly Update on August 5, 2010

Work for the coming week:

  • Crews will continue working on the installation of the storm drain.  Crews are currently by Grandview Blvd.
  • The trail on Redwood Road adjacent to the Saratoga Springs development is closed from the north end of the development to Lakeview Terrace.  The existing trail will be removed and a new trail will be built on the remaining HOA property a little to the east.
    • Crews have started work on the trail.
  • Crews will continue milling the asphalt and re-paving in the area between Grandview and Pelican Point.  Soft spot repair will also be done where needed.  Crews are working on the south end and moving north.
    • After the paving is completed on the road, a two-foot shoulder will be placed on both sides of the road.
  • From 400 South to a little north of Grandview Blvd. crews will continue working on the east side of the road.
    • In the next one to two weeks’ crews will be paving this side of the road.
  • A concrete barrier has been placed in the reconstruction area for driver safety during construction.  The barrier will be lengthened as the work moves south.
  • Parkway Blvd. has been closed since Monday, August 2 and will be closed for 4-6 weeks while crews work on the road.  HOA traffic may use the north entrance and 400 South to access SR-68.

*Crews will be working this Saturday.

Other work to be aware of:

  •  After the crews pave between 400 South and Grandview they will put a micro seal layer over the road for protection and raise the utilities back to the surface of the road.

  • Utility work is being done on the west side of the road relocating a gas line.
  • Concrete will be delivered next couple of weeks and crews will begin working on the installation of the curb and gutter at Parkway Blvd.
  • Crews discovered an unknown waterline along the portion of the project from Grandview, north approximately 1200 feet.  This waterline is a major facility for the city and conflicts directly with the planned storm sewer line.  UDOT, working with the HOA, has determined a new alignment for the storm sewer line that is on the east side of the berm.  This alignment will not impact any trees.  Crews will begin placing the line in the near future.  The grass will be restored upon installation of the line.
