SR 68 Update

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Work for the coming week:

  •  Crews will continue working on the installation of the storm drain.  Crews are currently by Grandview Blvd.
  • Crews are currently working on the intersection of 400 South and Redwood Road.  This intersection has been closed for safety reasons during this work.
  • The trail on Redwood Road adjacent to the Saratoga Springs development is closed from the north end of the development to Lakeview Terrace.  The existing trail will be removed and a new trail will be built on the remaining HOA property a little to the east.
    • Work will begin next week on the trail, south of Parkway Blvd.
  • Crews will continue milling the asphalt and re-paving in the area between Grandview and Pelican Point.  Soft spot repair will also be done where needed.  Crews are working on the south end and moving north.
    • After the paving is completed on the road, a two-foot shoulder will be placed on both sides of the road.
  • From 400 South to a little north of Grandview Blvd. crews will continue working on the east side of the road.  Crews are laying the subgrade for the new road.
  • A concrete barrier has been placed in the reconstruction area for driver safety during construction.  The barrier will be lengthened as the work moves south.
  • Beginning Monday, August 2 Parkway Blvd. will be closed for 4-6 weeks while crews work on the road.  Parkway Blvd. will be closed only after 400 South is reopened.  HOA traffic may use the north entrance and 400 South to access SR-68.

*Crews will be working this Saturday on the 400 South intersection, which will be opened Saturday night.

Other work to be aware of:

  •  Utility work is being done on the west side of the road relocating a gas line.
  • Concrete will be delivered next couple of weeks and crews will begin working on the installation of the curb and gutter at Parkway Blvd.
  • The Saratoga Springs HOA will be closing their access roads onto Redwood Road at various times during construction.  This is something the HOA has opted to do on their own since they own the roads in the development.
  • A wall will be placed next to the trail and its height will vary depending on the location.  The wall will begin at the north end of the development and will end approximately 500 feet north of Grandview Blvd.  The wall is part of the mitigation agreed to by the adjacent residents and HOA in lieu of a 6-foot noise wall being placed directly on the Right of Way line.  Additional landscaping will be added by the HOA behind the wall at a later date.

*Schedule is subject to change.  Please be alert and follow the direction of signs and the construction workers

2100 North Project Update

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010
The following are planned activities for the coming week. Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.
Traffic at the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection remains shifted to the east side. (See below for details)

Current Construction Activities

  • Curb and gutter work continues on the west leg of the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection. Traffic will remain shifted to the east side of the road until this is completed so crews can build the remaining portions of the intersection.
  • Excavation work is currently underway between the two frontage roads on the east side of 2100 N./2300 W. This work requires many loads of construction material to be brought in and out of the work zone. Please be mindful of this increased truck traffic when driving in the area.
  • In preparation for placing new sidewalk in the area, the current pedestrian walkway at the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection has been removed. Work on the curb and gutter for the new sidewalk and preparations for sidewalk paving have begun and will be completed next week.
  • Underground work for the traffic signals at the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection will start at the beginning of next week.

Ongoing Project Impacts

  • Over the next month, there will be concentrated construction operations at the intersection of 2100 N./2300 W.  Residents can expect brief, intermittent one-way flagging operations at the intersection and increased truck traffic.
  • Crews continue preparing the west side of the project between the Jordan River and Redwood Road for the future roadway.  This work includes installing walls, placing fill material and work on bridge and underpass structures.
  • Construction activities east of the railroad tracks are now scheduled to resume next month. Please watch these updates for additional information.
  • In the interest of safety, the small section of Jordan River Trail that falls within the project area has been closed. Access along the trail to the north and south will remain open, but there will be no connecting access through the project during construction.
  • In order to construct the new railroad bridge and subsequently build the roadway beneath the bridge, UTA and UDOT have fully closed 2100 North between 2300 West and Pointe Meadows Drive. This closure will remain in place through Fall of 2011. Motorists should plan to use 1500 North as an alternate route.

Street Closure (400 South)

Monday, July 26th, 2010

*400 South between Saratoga Road and Redwood Road will be closed  from Wednesday morning July 28 until Saturday morning July 31.  The road is being closed for the safety of the traveling public while the crews work on this intersection.  Please plan ahead for alternate routes during this time.

Pioneer Crossing Update

2100 North Project Update

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010
The following are planned activities for the coming week. Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.
In observance of the Pioneer Day holiday, no work will occur this Friday and Saturday, July 23 & 24.  For safety purposes, orange barrels and other traffic control devices must stay in place.  Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!

Current Construction Activities

  • Curb and gutter work will start at the beginning of next week on the west leg of the 2100 N./2300 W. intersection. Traffic will continue to be shifted to the east side until this is completed so that crews can build the remaining portions of the intersection.
Work on the curb and gutter for the new sidewalk and preparations for sidewalk paving will begin next week and will be complete in early August.  Due to limited area and to expedite construction activities, during this time there will be no designated pedestrian route through this area.  This work has been planned during summer vacation to keep both the workers and the public safe.

Ongoing Project Impacts

  • Over the next two months, there will be concentrated construction operations at the intersection of 2100 N./2300 W.  Residents can expect brief, intermittent one-way flagging operations at the intersection during this time.
  • Crews continue preparing the west side of the project between the Jordan River and Redwood Road for the future roadway.  This work includes installing walls, placing fill material and work on bridge and underpass structures.
  • Construction activities east of the railroad tracks are now scheduled to resume in August.

Pioneer Crossing Sets Aug. 23 Opening

Final Construction Push Will Lead to Grand Opening

The end is in sight for Pioneer Crossing!

The much-anticipated road project, which includes a six-mile east-west connection between Redwood Road in Saratoga Springs and the Main Street-U.S. 89 intersection in American Fork as well as a new, state-of-the-art interchange with I-15 at American Fork Main Street, will open on Monday, Aug. 23.

“That’s when the project will be ‘substantially complete’,” said Project Director Bryan Adams.  “There will still be a few things to finish up – some landscaping, and some work north of the new Mill Pond intersection in Lehi and on 900 West in American Fork.  But everything else will be open – the six-mile roadway, the new Mill Pond intersection, the new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), and all of the work we’ve been doing on east Main Street.  Everything will be open, with no more planned construction activities to interrupt the flow of traffic.”

Saratoga Springs residents have been looking at a roadway that looks complete for several weeks now.  There is only a little finish work to be done on the Jordan River bridge, and the Jordan River Parkway Trail under the bridge is already open.  Landscaping along the roadway is in place, and the new “Welcome to Saratoga Springs” sign is prominently placed.

“Some have wondered why we’re not opening at least the parts of the roadway that are already finished,” Adams said.  “The problem is, the eastern portion of the project still needs to be finished.  We are not ready for traffic on the new Mill Pond bridge over the railroad tracks, and we still have a big push to make to get the new DDI ready to function.  So we would have to dump all of that Pioneer Crossing traffic onto city streets in Lehi that are not prepared for that kind of impact.  It would create a dangerous situation for the neighborhoods and motorists alike.  So we will wait to open the entire project on Aug. 23.”

“We appreciate the patience of area residents with all of the work we’ve been doing,” Adams said.  “We are excited to open this beautiful new transportation facility, which we believe will make a huge difference for mobility in northern Utah County.

With the new interchange nearing completion, Adams suggests that residents who will be using it take a few minutes to familiarize themselves with the DDI and how it works.  “There is an excellent animation on our web site that not only shows how the DDI works, but also carefully explains how each movement is made,” Adams said.  “People should take a test drive on the DDI online before they start driving it.”

The DDI animation can be seen at www.udot.utah.gov/pioneer.  Click on the “New Interchange” heading.
