2100 North Project Update: 4/1/10
Thursday, April 1st, 2010Over the next two weeks, crews plan to complete the new traffic signal on Redwood Road for the future intersection with 2100 N. The new signal is scheduled to be active in mid-April. Until 2100 N. is complete, this signal will only be used to allow construction vehicles to safely and efficiently enter and exit the project area on the east side of Redwood Road. To disrupt traffic as little as possible, the signal will be equipped with video detection. The camera is designed to only trigger a red light for Redwood traffic when a truck is turning on to Redwood from the construction zone to the east.
For safety reasons, one southbound lane on Redwood Road will be closed for several hours on Thursday and Friday of next week, April 8-9, while the crews hang the new traffic signal mast arm over the travel lane.
On Monday, April 5, crews are scheduled to place the poles for the future traffic signal at Redwood Road. Minor shoulder restrictions remain in place on Redwood Road to ensure the safety of crews in the area. Major construction activities east of the Jordan River are scheduled to resume in mid-April. Please watch these updates for additional information.
Ongoing Project Impacts
Crews will continue clearing and placing fill on the west side of the project between the Jordan River and Redwood Road. Work on the irrigation system continues just east of Redwood Road in preparation for the irrigation season beginning this month. This work will have no impact to traffic. In the interest of safety, the small section of Jordan River Trail that falls within the project area has been closed. Access along the trail to the north and south will remain open, but there will be no connecting access through the project during construction.
In order to construct the new railroad bridge and subsequently build the roadway beneath the bridge, UTA and UDOT have fully closed 2100 North between 2300 West and Pointe Meadows Drive. This closure will remain in place through Fall of 2011. Motorists should plan to use 1500 North as an alternate route.
