The Saratoga Springs Fire Department issues burn permits to the residents of Saratoga Springs. Burning within the city is allowed one month out of the year.  This  is established by the Environmental Protection Agency. Burn permits may be purchased at the Saratoga Springs Fire Department 995 West 1200 North between the hours of 4 pm- 6pm Monday-Thursday only during the month burning is allowed. Burn permits are $10.00 for general and $15.00 for aquiculture and are good throughout the burn season. You may call 801-766-6505 with questions or for more information.

  11. Tree limbs and piles of cleanup should be of sufficient size to be able to safely burn and be out completely (cold to the touch) by 6:00 p.m. each day.

These guidelines are meant to protect you from liability and our environment from excessive pollution.

Fire Hydrants

Make sure fire hydrants have a three foot area clear of debris and obstructions.  Firefighters may need to get to the hydrant for water supply.  An obstruction of fencing, tree branches, bushes, weeds or brush may cause a delay as firefighters try to get water to extinguish a fire.  Someone may be injured or killed because water is not available as soon as possible.  Much more property damage could occur if the fire is not attacked quickly due to a delay in hooking up to the fire hydrant.

Fire Pits within the City

Fire pits are allowed within the City limits as long as the following rules are followed:

  • Fire pits must be 3 feet or less in diameter (including the height of the fire).
  • Fire pits must be used for recreation-cooking food, socializing, etc. They cannot be used for burning trash, yard waste etc.
  • There must be a ten foot clearing from the fire pit in all directions. This includes overhanging trees, bushes, weeks, furniture and/or any structure.
  • Fires must be attended at all times.
  • You must have a way to extinguish the fire with you at all times, i.e.: a hose, shovel, and dirt or an extinguisher.
