Education Opportunities

The Saratoga Springs Fire Department is committed to community education. Every year the fire department is actively engaged in educating residents of all ages in fire safety, fire prevention, CPR and first aid. Firefighters visit community preschools and elementary schools throughout the year teaching classes, conducting fire drills and educating students on fire safety.

Station tours and educational opportunities
The Saratoga Springs Fire Department offers station tours and presentations for preschools, scout groups etc. Call 801-766-6505 to schedule a tour or visit.

Reading with a Firefighter
During the summer months watch for information on “Reading with a firefighter”.
This program gives children an opportunity to visit the fire station, interact with firefighters through books and activities and learn about fire safety.

Classes & Clinics

Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) Classes

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Classes will be starting Wednesday, May 18th and run for 8 weeks,    
6pm-8:30pm at the SSFD (995 W. 1200 N.)
Cost:  No cost for class room instruction. 
Ages:  14 and older
Limited to 40 participants each night.

Equipment recommended:  CERT Manual, Green Hardhat, leather gloves, flashlight, and a first aid kit.  These items can be purchased from:

This program will include 4-6 hours of out of classroom assignments.  To graduate CERT, the participant must attend all classes and complete all assignments. 

CPR classes
CPR classes are held every other month starting in January. The class is held on the last Thursday of the month starting at 7:00 pm. There is no class in November or December. Call (801) 766-6505 to reserve a spot in the class.

First Aid
A First Aid class will be offered twice a year in February and August. The class will be held the last Thursday of the month starting at 7:00 pm. Call (801) 766-6505 to reserve a spot in the class.

Babysitting Clinic
Clinics will be held twice a year. One in April and one in October. Minimum age is 10 and classes will run from 8:00 am-1:00 pm. To reserve a spot please call 801-766-6505.
